SHIBARI - Weekend Intensive with Genks / Day 2 : Suspension Adventures [EN]

Prerequisites

Person tying: Must have suspension experience, through classes or private tuition. Should be able to manage suspension lines quickly and confidently on single points (Saturday class) and bamboo (Sunday class). This is **not** a beginner's class. Should have knowledge of nerve impingement and blood circulation loss and know how to differentiate the two and how to check for this.Person being tied: Should have knowledge of nerve impingement and blood circulation loss and know how to differentiate the two and communicate this. Is capable of being in full suspension. Can communicate needs quickly while in suspension.

What You Will Need:

• Rope. A minimum of 8 x 8m lengths of 5-6mm jute or hemp rope suitable for suspension.
• Safety Cutting Tool (EMT shears, rescue hook or similar)
• Comfortable clothing 
• Food and drinks in closed containers (there will be breaks throughout the workshop but not enough time to leave the venue to buy food)
• Something for note-taking
• Energy and Enthusiasm!

Sunday’s workshop will help you work towards a less conventional approach to partial and full suspension. We will begin by experimenting with harness free partial suspension on bamboo. Symmetry is banned and chaos rope is encouraged. You will then design your own asymmetric upper body harness. We will teach the vital elements of making an asymmetric upper body harness that is not only sustainable for your specific partner, but can withstand dynamic transitions. This will help encourage creativity in building safe and unique harnesses. It will also help you to be able to adapt harnesses to different body types and upper body injuries as needed. Finally we will work through a transition sequence together on bamboo using these harnesses. We will explore expanding and compacting the body as well as micro transitions to maximise creative shape making.
